Polypropylene, PP for short, is a polymer of propylene by adding polymerization. White waxy material, transparent and light in appearance. The chemical formula is (C3H6)n, the density is 0.89 ~ 0.91g/cm3, flammable, melting point is 189℃, softening at 155℃, the use of temperature range is -30 ~ 140℃.
Under 80℃ can resist acid, alkali, salt solution and a variety of organic solvent corrosion, can decompose under high temperature and oxidation action.
Polypropylene is a thermoplastic synthetic resin with excellent performance. It is a colorless translucent lightweight thermoplastic general purpose plastic with chemical resistance, heat resistance, electrical insulation, high strength mechanical properties and good high wear-resisting processing properties. It is widely used in the production of clothing, blankets and other fiber products, medical instruments, automobiles, bicycles, spare parts, transportation pipes, chemical containers and so on. Also used for food, medicine packaging.
What is Long Glass Fiber(LGF)?
Glass fiber is a kind of inorganic nonmetallic material with excellent performance. The advantages are good insulation, strong heat resistance, good corrosion resistance, high mechanical strength, but the disadvantages are brittle and poor wear resistance. One of the main uses of glass fiber is to reinforce composite materials. Long glass fiber generally refers to the length of more than 10mm glass fiber.
Why filling Long Glass Fiber(LGF)?
PP(polypropylene) as one of the general plastic materials, large output, low price, at the same time has excellent comprehensive performance, good chemical stability, better processing performance.
However, PP strength is not high, use temperature is not high, low hardness, low temperature impact resistance and other shortcomings, seriously limited its application field.
Therefore, engineers add reinforcing materials such as glass fiber and calcium carbonate into PP, and when the length of glass fiber exceeds the critical size, the mechanical properties can be dramatically improved.
Under this background, LFT-PP(long fiber reinforced PP) came into being.
At present, LDT-PP has been widely used in automobiles, power tools, home appliances, water treatment components.
Particle morphology of PP reinforced by long glass fiber
Generally 12 mm or 25 mm in length, diameter of about 3 mm columnar particles. The 12mm or so length of the grain is mainly used for injection molding, and the 25mm or so length of the grain is mainly used for pressure molding. In this particle, the glass fiber has the same length as the particle, the glass fiber content can vary from 20 to 60 percent, and the color of the particle can be matched according to the customer's requirements.
Why do some areas use long glass fiber reinforced PP instead of short glass fiber reinforced PP?
Rispetto ai compositi termoplastici rinforzati con fibre corte, LFT presenta i seguenti vantaggi:

• Eccellente resistenza alla fatica.
• Migliore stabilità in ambienti caldi e umidi.
• La fibra può muoversi relativamente nello stampo di stampaggio durante il processo di stampaggio e il danno alla fibra è minimo.
